Bone Grafting
Are you interested in restoring one or more missing teeth with dental implants? Every day, we see patients who have the exact same interest. But unfortunately, not everyone who wants dental implants is a good candidate for treatment. The reason for this is that implants require a certain amount of bone density. If a patient doesn’t have enough bone to support one or more implants, they may not be a good candidate for treatment.
Thankfully, though, it’s possible for a less-than-ideal candidate to reverse their situation and become a perfectly qualified candidate. This is done with a bone grafting procedure from DFW Periodontics & Implant Dentistry.
During such a procedure, bone tissue is placed where it’s needed. This tissue may come from the patient’s body or it may come from a tissue bank. Regardless, the process will be aided by special bone growth stimulants that will speed up the integration process.
One specific type of bone graft is a sinus lift. During a sinus lift, bone is added near the molars in the patient’s upper jaw, significantly improving density. Following a recovery period, the patient’s jaw will be re-evaluated to see if it’s now strong enough to support one or more dental implants.
